2024 Unleashed: Blueprint for a Career Kickstart

New year, new you!  So you’re ready to embark on a new role, and you’re wondering, where do I start?  The following checklist will help launch you into that new position:

Resume – Ensure your resume is ready to wow!  What problems have you solved in your current role? What are your main functions, what do you do on a day-to-day basis? What are your accomplishments? Your current position should be front and center on the first page, right below your name and contact information.  Follow your current role with past positions (including responsibilities and accomplishments for each role) and be sure to include a link to publications.

LinkedIn – Is your profile up to date?  If you wanted a hiring manager or recruiter to find you, what words would they be searching for?  Be sure to include those!

Spread the word — Reach out to your connections (ideally individually) and let them know the type of role you’re looking for.  It’s typically our “weak ties” that will be the key to our next role.  So, it might not be your network that will land you a role, but a first connection’s cousin, neighbor, or colleague.

Follow up – Accept calendar invites (click yes!), respond to emails quickly, return voicemails, stay on top of texts.  Spend a few minutes every night ensuring that an email, text, or voicemail didn’t fall through the cracks.

Show your gratitude — Be sure to send thank you emails to anyone who helps along the way, especially to the hiring manager after the interview.  It only takes a few minutes, and it makes a huge impact.  It also could mean the difference on whether or not you get an offer!

And of course, engage with a seasoned recruiter who specializes in your sector 😊
